A FESTIVAL with a difference – which might leave you with a mouthful of fire – is taking place in Alnwick in May for the first time.

Organisers of Alnwick Beer Festival and Alnwick Food Festival have collaborated to hold a cider and chilli festival in town.

Taking place on Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5, the cider festival is being run by Alnwick and District Round Table after success with the drink at its annual beer festival.

There will be between 20 and 30 ciders on offer, in a marquee in Alnwick Market Place.

Tabler Mark Turnbull said: “Cider is getting more and more popular and we’re all quite enthusiastic about it so we thought we would hold a cider festival to see how it goes.

“We want to draw more people in to Alnwick and promote the town.”

The chilli festival was the idea of Alnwick Food Festival director Karen Larkin.

Around 12 stalls selling chilli-related produce will be on offer in the Market Place on Saturday, May 5 from 9am to 4pm.

Karen said: “We are really excited about the additional event this year. Hopefully, it will be a success and it will give us something to build on in the future.

“There are so many different products popping up all over the place containing chillies so we thought we would give it a whirl.”

If there are any cooks or chefs who would like to demonstrate what they can produce with chillies, contact Karen on 07846542929 or Karen@alnwickfoodfestival.co.uk

The cider festival will open from 6pm to 11pm on Friday and 11am to 11pm on Saturday.

The round table is looking for sponsors for its beers, anyone interested should visit www.alnwick beerfestival.co.uk for more information.
