A BLIND auction is to be held after a book that is more than 50 years old was donated to Alnwick Lions.

The Rupert the Bear book, which dates back to 1948, was given to the bookshop which the charity runs in Bondgate Within.

And because of its age, the group has decided to hold a blind auction to sell it.

The book, called The Monster Rupert, has colour drawings on the cover with black and white illustrations throughout and contains four stories – Rupert and the Three Robbers, Rupert and the Little Prince, Rupert and Bill and the Pirates and Rupert and the Magic Hat.

There is also a painting page inside.

The book’s corners have been bumped and there is some stains on the back cover.

To take part, write out your bid, place it in a sealed envelope and leave it at the Lions Bookshop.

Once the auction has come to an end, the highest bid will take the book.

The result will be announced in the Gazette.
