CROWDS gathered in Alnwick Market Place to celebrate the start of Armed Forces Week on Monday.

Representatives from the RAF, Royal Navy and Army, along with veterans, were in attendance as Town Crier John Stevens began proceedings with a poem.

Rev Cannon Alan Craig conducted the service and the flag was raised on top of the Northumberland Hall, as Bugler Private Bradbury from RAF Boulmer played the Reveille.

A special parade by cadets will take place on Saturday starting at noon from Greenwell Lane, through Bondgate Tower, along Bondgate Within to the Northumberland Hall to mark the end of the week.

The Duke of Northumberland will take the salute from the dias outside Lloyds Bank.

There will be a short ceremony at 5.30pm. A bugler will play the Last Post as the flag is lowered from the Northumberland Hall to mark the end of the week.
