A cafe at an Amble arts and crafts venue is under new leadership, with an emphasis on home-made, locally-sourced treats.

The eatery at Artique @The Marina, on The Wynd, has been taken over by Karen Dewing and Val Mole, following the retirement of the previous management team. Karen said: “All of the cakes, scones, soups and pies are home-made and we use, where possible, local products.

“We opened earlier this month and the response has been great. People are saying we are a bit of a niche market because of the home-cooking.”

The new venture is a change of focus for both Karen and Val, who were both previously dental nurses.

Karen said: “We have always been foodies and enjoyed home cooking. We always thought it would be lovely to open a tea room. We never thought we would be given an opportunity like this. It is fantastic”

The cafe is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, and Sunday, 11am to 4pm.

Artique was the brainchild of Pauline Robertson and the venue is holding first-birthday celebrations on May 31.
