Helping Glendale residents to stay well and have fun

More than 40 people attended the Staying Well and Having Fun event in Wooler last week.

Everyone took away a bag full of goodies, together with a planted bulb and card they could make for themselves courtesy of Wooler U3A.

Roddam WI put on a splendid lunch of four kinds of soup and rolls and agencies offered a wide range of advice on health, activity and cost-saving initiatives.

Perhaps one of the most popular was the supply of radiator reflectors available from Community Action Northumberland.

“With such a range of stalls, people were spoiled for choice and we’re grateful to Ageing Well for providing the funding and to all the groups who contributed,” said Jane Pannell, chairman of Co-ordinating4Age in Glendale. “The range of stalls and numbers of visitors resembled an exotic street market!”

People were signing up for the Men’s Workshop, Walking for Health, complementary therapies and having their blood pressures taken.

From the Royal British Legion, Hearing Loss to the County Blind Association and Patient Participation Group, more than 20 groups and organisations were represented.

The organisers hope that the event will take place again next year.
