NEW recruits are wanted to complete a military band.
The Alnwick Training Corps facility, which is based at the TA centre on Lisburn Street and parades at Kingston Park, has dwindling numbers after less cadets have joined in.
But Major Mark Ewart, who has resurrected his Tuba playing after 28 years of non-playing, wants to bring more life into the band and get it back up and running at full capacity.
“We are hoping to recruit young lads and lasses between the ages of 12 and 18 who play a musical instrument or want to learn to play,” he said.
“At the same time we are looking for adult instructors. People who maybe used to play or still do play and would like to come along and give their expertise to the young people.”
At the moment the band has 18 members but needs 30 to work at capacity.
Musicians, which include the Air Training Corps Cadets, are taken by minibus to Kingston Park on Wednesdays for parade.
But as many of the corps of drums players are based in Alnwick and the surrounding area the drums and bugles section will be moving to the town in the near future.
