While HospiceCare North Northumberland provides day centre care for patients as well as holistic therapies they also look after patients in their own homes.
The Hospice at Home team enables people in north Northumberland to stay in their own homes, at end of life, instead of going into hospital. It allows the patient to be with their family and friends at this most precious time. The services are delivered by a team of highly-trained and skilled health care assistants in palliative care, who can work flexibly, day or night, seven days a week.
They will also support families and carers by giving them a break, whether it’s day or night, planned or in a crisis situation.
In just the last 12 months, HospiceCare has seen an increase of 97 per cent in new referrals for its Hospice at Home services.
To meet this demand, it will have to raise over £360,000 this year and will receive just 17 per cent from the NHS, the rest it has to find from donations and fund-raising.
HospiceCare is the only palliative care charity in north Northumberland providing the free service. As an independent charity, its income is not supported by national charities such as Macmillan or Marie Curie.
