DRIVERS in Northumberland are being warned to take care amid ‘extremely hazardous’ conditions on icy roads.
The Met Office has issued an alert for icy roads in the North East.
The warning states: “Rain will move southeastwards from Scotland into England early on Thursday.
“This will fall onto very cold surfaces, such as roads, and will freeze instantly, forming a layer of ice.
“The public should be prepared for extremely hazardous driving conditions, particularly on routes over high ground and where roads are untreated.”
There have already been two accidents on the A1 at Shilbottle.
At 6.50pm, a Jeep came off the road, while 40 minutes later a car collided with part of the central reservation.
A police spokesman said no one was injured in either of the incidents.
