Girl airlifted to hospital after being burnt in Rothbury grass fire

An 11-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital after being burnt in a grass fire near Rothbury.

At 1.30pm on Good Friday, the Great North Air Ambulance Service was called to the scene, where a mother and daughter had been caught by the flames.

The girl, who suffered burns to her face, hands and legs, was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. The flight took 13 minutes and the girl was stable on arrival.

Her mother was taken to hospital by road.
