A MORE sedate form of exercise will be coming to Alnwick’s celebration of the Olympics, with a special tea dance aimed at older members of the community.
Last month, organisers of the week-long Festival of Alnwick put out a rallying call for singers, musicians and bands to join the party, adding to the diverse mix of sport and entertainment being staged between June 9 and 15.
And on Thursday, June 14, an Old Time Tea Dance will be held at the town’s Northumberland Hall between 2pm and 5pm.
Music will be provided by Robert Whitehead, from Bothal, while food will be supplied by The Black Olive Cafe in Alnwick.
Festival of Alnwick coordinator Karen Larkin said: “I am delighted that Robert can do this on the Thursday because that is the day that the Torch is coming to Alnwick.
“My plan is to have something for everybody and a wide-range of entertainment which will entice people to the town and a tea dance is a good addition.”
Tea dance participants can pay on the door.
The admission price is still to be decided but the Gazette has been told it will not be expensive.
