A new £125,000 watersports facility on the Northumberland coast is set to become a reality with the final pieces of a funding package now in place.
The proposals to build new changing facilities at the visitor centre at Druridge Bay Country Park, with storage for boats and equipment, are being led by the Coquet Shorebase Trust and supported by Northumberland County Council.
The funding will allow the replacement of an existing portable cabin and remove the current need to bring equipment from Amble for every watersports session at the park.
The Trust submitted a grant application to Sport England and was awarded £50,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund and the new facility will carry the London 2012 Inspire marks.
Other funding is coming from UK Coal’s Maidens Hall community benefits fund, the county council and local councillors Glen Sanderson, Robert Arckless and Jeff Watson through their local small schemes fund allocations.
