FIVE friends who work at a north Northumberland school will be up to their elbows in soap-suds next week, when they team up to wash cars for charity.

Sharon Thompson, Sharon Brydon, Shayna McKewon, Katrina Green and Shirley Fraser – all residential staff at Barndale House School in Alnwick – are raising money to supply vital equipment to African children.

On Tuesday, they will be washing cars at Barndale in return for a donation.

Organiser Sharon Brydon said: “Shirley is heading to Ghana on July 25 to work for a month in a school or orphanage.

“It’s something she’s always wanted to do, so she has paid for the trip herself. We’re raising money so that she can buy equipment for the children once she’s out there.

“Local businesses have already offered their support, so we’re hoping local people will do the same.”

The car wash will run from 10.30am to 2.30pm.
