A Wooler resident has received an early Christmas gift, thanks to the Gazette and Rix Petroleum.

Brian Thompson was the lucky winner of 500 litres of heating oil worth around £300 from the Alnwick-based company in a competition launched by us in October.

He recently took delivery of the fuel, ahead of the festive season, ensuring he will be warm and cosy for the winter.

Mr Thompson said: “It was brilliant when I was called to say I’d won.

“I never expected to win, I never even gave it a second thought.

“I don’t even win in raffles, but I thought, why not?”

Mr Thompson was overjoyed with the prize, saying it would keep his family warm as the weather grows colder.

He added: “Although the price of oil is down at the moment, heating your home is still a big expense, so winning this fuel is a real bonus.

“We will be warm and toasty all winter without worry.”

Tim Claxton, depot manager at Rix Petroleum NE, based on Willowburn Industrial Estate, congratulated Mr Thompson on his win.

He said: “We like to bring some festive cheer to the season by giving people the opportunity to win 500 litres of fuel, delivered free to their door.

“After all, it’s a good feeling to know you are fully prepared for all the British weather can throw at you.

“It was a great pleasure to deliver to Brian and I’m delighted he was the lucky and deserving winner. I hope it helps him and his family stay warm until the better weather is upon us.”

Rix Petroleum is a fifth generation family company which has been operating for nearly 80 years.
