A NEW group has been set up to help this year’s Alnwick Food Festival.
The Friends of the Food Festival initiative has been launched to boost volunteer numbers for the event, which attracted around 30,000 people to the town last year.
The group is being run by steering committee member Jim Thompson and a group page has been launched on social networking website Facebook.
The food festival takes place on Saturday, September 22, and Sunday, September 23, in the Market Place.
Food and drink producers from across the North East will be selling their produce while celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli will be back after his success last year, to demonstrate his talents in the kitchen.
The event is put together by a small group of dedicated committee members and volunteers are needed to help over the weekend.
Festival director Karen Larkin said: “We are delighted to be implementing a Friends of the Food Festival scheme and by being a friend it means that everyone can feel part of this great event for the town.
“There are plenty of opportunities for people to get involved either by helping out over the weekend or just simply spreading the word.”
