Couples in north Northumberland are being offered the chance to give their relationship an MOT while enjoying a chippy tea.
The course, which starts next month and runs until April, is being run by Alnwick Baptist Church, but the venue is Carlo’s in the centre of town and a free meal is included to kick off the evenings.
The church is running the course for couples wishing to build a strong and lasting relationship.
It’s relevant whether you have been together for a few months or for many years and is based on a successful format designed by Holy Trinity Church in Brompton, London, which has now been rolled out nationwide.
But while a similar course would cost £90 in London, in Alnwick it’s free with a fish-and-chip supper thrown in as well.
It is the second time that the course has been provided in Alnwick, previously in the Percy Hall, but on this occasion the venue is the upstairs room of Carlo’s Fish &Chip Restaurant.
A meal of choice will be provided to allow couples to relax before watching a DVD.
Each couple’s privacy is respected as there is no group discussion and no requirement to disclose anything about their relationship to anyone else.
The evening starts at 7pm and will run for about two-and-a-half hours.
The course, while based on Christian principles, is very helpful for any couple, with or without a Christian faith or church background, in a loving, lasting relationship, whether married or not.
Topics covered include: Building strong foundations; the art of communication; resolving conflict; the power of forgiveness; the impact of family – past and present; good sex; and love in action.
Chris and Caroline Friend said: “A very helpful and at times humourous course which has definitely improved communication between us and strengthened our marriage.”
Paul and Elaine Ingram added that it was ‘excellent as a refresher and for learning new things’.
