THE Holy Island Causeway has claimed its first stranding victim of 2012.
Yesterday (Thursday) at around 1.30pm, the Seahouses lifeboat crew and Holy Island Coastguard were alerted as a blue Astra with two occupants had become cut off.
They had been trying to cross outside the safe crossing times.
The coastguards managed to get the pair to safety on Holy Island while arrangements were then made for the car to be recovered once the tide receded.
This was the first call to the causeway since new warning signs were trialled over the Easter holidays.
The trial was declared a success and it is hoped that permanent, more interactive signs can be installed over the summer.
