A fire crew has been called out for the second time tonight to tackle another pile of rubbish which has been deliberately set alight in a Northumberland town – little more than an hour after the first incident which occurred close by.

Firefighters from Alnwick were alerted to the flames to the rear of the town’s Chapel Lands at 7.23pm. They extinguished the small rubbish fire at 7.42pm.

This incident came after the crew had tackled a similar fire in the same area at around 6pm and a spokeswoman for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said that both had been started deliberately.

In what is becoming a worrying trend, firefighters were called out on Friday night to put out a rubbish fire in the same part of the town.
