Rothbury-based Spirit Buses ran its last services last weekend, as it ceased to operate the route in the Coquet Valley.

Replacement operator PCL Travel, a small firm based in the county, has taken on the contract.

Spirit Buses ran the service since 2014 and its director Steve Hurst said that he has been astounded by the amount of thank-yous and best wishes the company has received.

The bus was packed on Saturday to mark the last journey – the Coquetdale Circular – and messages of support have been left on the firm’s Facebook page.

Of the messages, one person wrote: ‘Thank you for the fantastic service you have provided’, while another posted: ‘You’ve done so well for the last two years, picking up people in the most rural villages.’
