Contentious plans to build 47 homes, a doctors’ surgery and five start-up businesses in Shilbottle have been deferred over serious concerns about drainage.
At last Thursday’s north area planning committee meeting, councillors discussed the Northumberland Estates application but did not want to make a decision because of numerous fears over the drainage and sewerage capacity at the site.
At a site visit earlier in the week, Coun Scott Dickinson asked that the county council’s sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) officer was at the meeting.
But this was not the case.
Coun Dickinson said: “I am very disappointed. The drainage issues are one of the major concerns at this site. “
Coun Trevor Thorne added: “Drainage is such an important issue in Shilbottle.
“We need someone to explain how it will work.”
Planning officers are to request the SUDS officer to attend September’s meeting before any decision is made on the application.
