Fashion show raises £2,300 for charity

More than £2,000 was raised at a charity fashion show.

The event at Alnwick Garden last Friday night saw clothes from stores across Alnwick paraded along a catwalk with all proceeds in aid of HospiceCare North Northumberland.

It raised more than £2,300.

There was an added boost to the night as Slimming World groups in Alnwick, Amble, Widdrington and Felton announced they had lost 145-and-a-half stones at the half-way point in their six-week Slim For Good slimathon in aid of the hospice.

Clothes from Store 21, Dorothy Perkins, Scotts of Alnwick, Kiddies Kabin and CC Fashion, as well as accessories from Emporium, handmade corsets by Sue Scott and dresses by Tracey Sprigg were shown, with Bex Hair and Beauty also helping out.

Rebecca Taylor, community and events fund-raiser for HospiceCare, said: “We are delighted to have raised a fantastic £2,300 at our fashion show for HospiceCare, through the generous sponsorship of MSP (Metrology Software Products), ticket sales, raffle and donations. It was a really, truly lovely evening, with over 200 people in attendance, compered by local Radio Lionheart presenter Jackie Kaines.

“The audience was very receptive to our models, who were just amazing up on the catwalk. It was also great to hear feedback from the local stores that audience members have already been into their stores over the weekend to browse and shop.

“Next year sees the 20th anniversary of HospiceCare, the main providers of palliative care in north Northumberland, so our 2015 fashion show will be one to look forward too as we kick-start our celebrations.”

Brian Wardell, who has used services at the charity, said:“I thoroughly enjoyed the fashion show. The stores were very helpful and friendly and made me feel at ease going up on the catwalk. An excellent night was had by all involved.”

Julie Avery, at Kiddies Kabin, added: “All the models were absolute stars. The children couldn’t wait to get on the catwalk and they were excellent.”
