A north Northumberland operation has won a major international award for the second year running.

Greenseed International’s Northumberland outpost has picked up the Best Supplier Performance from the US multinational PepsciCo, parent company of Walkers Crisps, Quaker and fruit juice giants Tropicana and Copella.

It is based on a tough list of key performance indicators such as volume and size, forecasting accuracy and seed quality.

David Humphreys, who lives at the Doctor’s Lodge on the A697 near Crookham and runs the Northumberland operation growing 80 potato varieties on land leased from Ford and Etal Estate, said: “We are very proud of this two-year achievement.

“It’s great for both Greenseed Northumberland and agriculture in the North East.

“Having PepsiCo backing has allowed us to grow the Northumberland business to 300Ha, making us one of the largest potato growers in the North East.”

David added: “We also rent land from 18 different farms outside Ford and Etal Estate.”

Paying tribute to Ford and Etal Estates as well as to his ‘dedicated team which does the work and the many contractors and local businesses who make it all possible’, David accepted the award from David Wilkinson director of agriculture for Pepsico Europe, in Edinburgh last week, beating competitors from Scotland, Holland, Austria, Poland and the Czech Republic.
