Trustees, volunteers and friends gathered in Belford Community Club to say farewell to Phil Nicholson, retiring chairman of Belford Community Group and his wife Lindsey, who are moving to Wales to be nearer their family.
Following a buffet supper, Phil and Lindsey were presented with some paintings of local scenes.
Vice-chairman Eric Gassner paid tribute to Phil as an ‘excellent chairman and treasurer, a person of great integrity and vision’.
Lindsey has demonstrated great skill in helping to set up and run the very successful shop, which is the hub of the group’s fund-raising for the village.
The Community Group, under Phil’s chairmanship, has raised more than £50,000 in the community shop in two years, has found grant funding of £30,000 for the Hidden History Exhibition and much more besides.
