Green-fingered residents and business people are being encouraged to enter an annual contest to reward their horticultural efforts.

The Northumberland Gazette has once again teamed up with Alnwick in Bloom to help launch the group’s annual Gardening Competition.

The 2016 contest comprises four categories. These are Best Garden; Best Display (containers); Best Retirement Complex; and Best Commercial Premises.

Anyone interested in entering should buy a copy of this week’s Gazette, fill out the form on Page 28 and return it to us at Gardening Competition, Northumberland Gazette, 32 Bondgate Without, Alnwick, Northumberland, NE66 1PN, before 5pm on Monday, July 25.

The Alnwick in Bloom judges will then visit all of the entrants. Judging is due to take place during the week starting Monday, August 1.

The prizes, which will be silver plaques for first, second and third places, will be presented at a ceremony in September at The Alnwick Garden.

Elizabeth Jones, of Alnwick in Bloom, said that the standard is always high and she expected some top-draw entries once again this year.
