The Wheatsheaf housing project in Wooler has now been officially completed, with the final element, a stairlift, being installed.

The five Glendale Gateway Trust (GGT) apartments have been designed as affordable homes for the over 55s.

Rob Marriner, the GGT trustee with responsibility for housing, said: “Although the new tenants don’t currently need to use the lift, their visitors might, and the trust wanted to ensure the building meets possible future need.

“Who knows what the need will be for the lift in five or 10 years’ time?”

The stairlift has been provided through a donation by Waring and Sons of Preston, the owners of The Wheatsheaf.
