At a meeting of Alnwick Embroiderers’ Guild, members took part in a workshop run by branch member Denise Primrose.

They used felted wool to make needlework accessories including a needlecase, pincushion and scissor holder, all embroidered and embellished with simple but effective stitches. After a shared lunch, Ailish Henderson gave a talk entitled From Stories to Stitch – Using Textiles to Embroider your Story. Ailish intended to study art after she left school but was introduced to textiles and embroidery and decided to change her focus. She followed a City and Guilds Creative Embroidery course and then took a degree in textiles. Ailish has memories of pieces of fabric and embroidery being linked to family members and she has used several such pieces in her work. One included some lace which had belonged to her grandmother. The audience were keen to look at her work and asked questions after her informative talk.
