After the birthday celebrations of September it was back to business for Embleton WI.

Joined by the visiting WI advisor Mrs Julia Davidson who was welcomed by the president, Lady Craft, members opened the meeting with Jerusalem.

The usual business meeting reported on the success of the 95th birthday party and the group meeting.

A coffee morning held at the end of September was a success contributing valuable funds to help the institute to continue providing a varied programme for their members in the future.

Forthcoming county events were highlighted and details of the programme for 2014 given.

The annual meeting followed under the guidance of Mrs Davidson.

A satisfactory financial statement was given by the treasurer, Mrs L Harris who was then thanked by Lady Craft for her work.

The secretary, Mrs E Harratt gave the committee’s annual report of the activities of the year.

The president, Lady Craft, thanked officers, committee and members for their work throughout the year.

Expressing a wish to retire after five years as president, Lady Craft encouraged members to remain strong in the lead up to the Embleton centenary in 2018.

The president then announced the winners for the 2012-13 competition prizes and cup: 1 Mrs J Laidler 19pts; Joint 2 Lady Craft, Mrs L Harris, Miss J Littler 18.

Mrs Julia Davidson then addressed the meeting expressing pleasure at being back at Embleton which holds many memories and seeing the response by members to the meeting.

The importance of everyone giving input to ideas for group meetings was stressed.

Committee members were confirmed as Lady Craft, Lady Sutherland, Mrs L Harris, Mrs E Harratt, Miss J Littler, Mrs J Little, Mrs N Ham, and Mrs M Emmerson.

A secret ballot for the new president resulted in the election of Mrs N Ham who was congratulated by the members.

Miss J Littler gave a vote of thanks and the gift of another well received pot plant to Mrs Davidson.

On behalf of the members, Mrs M Hewitson thanked the committee for their work with special thanks to the retiring president.

The competition winners for the colour gold were: 1 Miss J Littler; 2 Mrs M Hewitson; 3 Lady Craft. Raffle winners were: Lady Craft and Mrs M Hewitson.

The November meeting will be a demonstration of cards and crafts by Sandra Wells.
