The president of Embleton WI, Mrs N Ham welcomed members and the visiting WIA Prudence Marks to the annual meeting held in the Creighton Hall.
The secretary Mrs L Harratt read the minutes of the last meeting and arising from these a report on the dominoes match which Embleton narrowly lost to Lesbury following an enjoyable afternoon.
Forthcoming events included the group meeting were discussed and arrangements made for the November meeting on Royal palaces.
The annual meeting business commenced with the presentation of the financial statement by the treasurer, Mrs L Harris, who thanked county auditor and spoke of the difficulties in maintaining a healthy financial balance.
The secretary then gave a report of all the events that members had participated in during the past year.
The president in her address thanked the secretary and treasurer for their work and the other members of the committee who had assisted them during the year.
The support of all members of the Institute during the year was acknowledge as an important part of the success of the year.
The WI adviser, Prudence Marks, opened her remarks commenting on her past visits to Embleton and the progress that had been made.
She then continued by discussing methods by which the Institute could raise the money required to send delegates to the centenary annual general meeting at the Albert Hall in 2015, which promises to be a very special occasion.
The confirmation of the committee and the re-election of Mrs Ham as president were conducted by the WIA.
Thanks were given to the WIA president and Mrs S Black thanked the committee for their work on behalf of the members.
Competition Cup winners for 2013-2014 were announced: 1 Lady A Craft; 2 Mrs L Harris; 3 Miss J Littler.
The October competition for harvest was won by Mrs J Hazelhurst; 2 Lady A Craft; 3 Mrs J Laidler. The raffle was won by Lady Craft.
During tea and biscuits the members enjoyed a catch-up of news and future events.
