Alnwick students raise the bar

A-Level students at Alnwick’s Duchess’s Community High School once again raised the bar this year with new records being set.

An increase of more than 10 per cent saw 53 per cent of all grades achieved at B or above. And 30 per cent of them were A or A*.

Of the 120 students who took A-Levels this year, 18 of them were awarded three or more A or A* grades.

Headteacher Maurice Hall said: “Nationally we continue to hear about what politicians and the media think about standards and whether A-Levels are still ‘fit for purpose’ etc. There never seems to be any continuity in our education system.

“All I can say is our students, and our teachers, have worked extraordinarily hard to achieve excellent results.

“I wish our students every success in the next stage of their lives.”
