CHRISTIAN pilgrims carrying crosses arrived at Holy Island on Good Friday, as their epic Easter journey reached its climax.

The annual Northern Cross pilgrimage, now in its 36th year, attracted around 80 Christians from all denominations.

They walked in seven groups, starting at Iona, Bellingham, Carlisle, Lanark, Melrose, Haddington and Seahouses, and the parties began the Holy Week mission the Saturday before arriving at Holy Island, except those from Iona, who started two weeks before.

The pilgrims spent time on the island, taking part in Easter services and a bonfire with torch-lit parade.
