Drug arrests after police search Amble homes

Two men were arrested after police carried out search warrants at five homes in Amble yesterday.

Officers, acting on community concerns, searched the premises under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Two men were arrested during the operation, a 32-year-old, arrested on suspicion of supplying a class B drug has been bailed pending further enquiries.

A 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis has been issued with a cannabis warning.

A quantity of drugs, diazepam and cannabis leaf was also recovered by officers.

Sergeant Neville Wharrier from Alnwick said: “This activity was carried out by the Neighbourhood Policing Team in the area, working together with the community. Officers act on concerns raised about people suspected of being involved in drug use or supply, they can expect to be targeted.

“I’d urge people in the area to continue to tell us what concerns them the most so we can take appropriate action to ensure the area continues to be a safer place to live.

“Illegal drugs cause misery to our communities and will not be tolerated.

“We will continue to proactively target the areas that are causing residents the most concern. Anyone suspected of being involved in illegal activity should know that police will continue to target them.

“Anyone who is concerned about crime or disorder where they live should contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101 ext 69191.”
