A woman killed in a crash on the A697 in north Northumberland last week has been named as police continue to appeal for witnesses.
At 9.46am on Friday, a car travelling southbound on the A697 south of Wooler, for reasons yet to be established, collided with another car travelling northbound.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 62-year-old woman, was declared dead at the scene. She has now been named as Muriel Bartle, from Seaton Sluice.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 25-year-old woman, suffered a broken leg and was taken to Wansbeck Hospital for treatment. She has since been released.
The A697 near Wooler was closed for most of the day in order for emergency services to deal with the collision and examine the scene.
Inquiries are being carried out to establish the cause of the collision and anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to contact police on either 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 305 171014, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
