A volunteer service which offers hot drinks to people on Saturday nights is returning to Alnwick later this month.

The town’s Christians Together sponsors the drinks van, which is run by an army of helpers.

The free hot beverages – tea, coffee and hot chocolate – are available for youngsters, people who are enjoying a night out, visitors to the town and anyone else who would benefit from the service.

The van is normally on The Cobbles, whatever the weather, but due to holidays, it stopped during August. However, the service will be returning from Saturday, September 12.

Van coordinator Bill McDonald said: “This is a way for the churches to be relevant and to reach out into their community. We were unable to staff the coffee van during August, but the message we wish to get out is that ‘we are back’, starting from September 12 and onwards for the foreseeable future. We run from 9.30pm to 12.30am.”
