Belford WI, Meeting

A proper party
Belford.Belford.
Belford.

Belford WI President Audrey Thomson opened the evening, welcoming 78 guests from near and far. We were honoured that VIP guests federation chairman Hilary Robson and WIA Prudence Marks could join us.

President Audrey proposed the birthday toast and we raised our glasses of bubbly to The Queen. We joined together to sing Happy Birthday Your Majesty, followed by a rousing rendition of Jerusalem.

Guests then settled down to watch two cookery demonstrations by members Amanda and Barbara, showing the Queen’s favourite chocolate biscuit cake and coronation chicken, a dish created by the Cordon Bleu Cookery School to celebrate her coronation in 1953.

Village Voices then took to the stage and entertained with a selection of local and patriotic music, with everyone joining the chorus (and much flag waving) of Rule Britannia.

Members served a delicious supper of ham with salads, homemade shortbread and, of course, the chocolate biscuit cake.

All agreed an excellent night was had by all, with one guest overheard saying how much she had enjoyed it being “a proper party”.
