An evening to celebrate the dramatic story of the delivery of the news of the Battle of Waterloo to Britain – by a member of the Percy family – is being held later this month.

Historian and award-winning author Brian Cathcart will give his historical insight into what was described as ‘the most momentous news to reach Britain in the whole of the 19th century’.

Following Napoleon’s defeat, it took three days to travel from the blood-soaked battlefield of Waterloo to the decorous dining rooms of Regency London.

In an illustrated talk, Brian will tell the extraordinary and gripping tale of Major Henry Percy’s historic journey, as recounted in his new book, The News From Waterloo.

The talk, on Monday, June 15, at 6.30pm in the Staterooms at Alnwick Castle, will be followed by a question and answer session with the opportunity to buy the book.

The event will also include the launch of a new exhibition named Victory Sir, Victory! Henry Percy and the Battle of Waterloo 1815.

Tickets cost £10 with a special offer for local history groups. Book a table of 10 will allow you to get a 20 per cent discount.

Tickets are available from www.alnwickcastle.com and from the castle admission hall. For more information call 01665 511100.
