Woman denies benefit fraud

AN Alnwick woman has pleaded not guilty to benefit fraud alleged to total thousands of pounds.

Lisa Anderson, 40, of Clayport Gardens, entered the plea yesterday at Newcastle Crown Court to a charge of failing to give notification of a change in circumstances regarding disability allowance.

It is claimed that between June 15, 2003, and January 20, 2009, she knew that there had been an improvement in her physical capabilities which would affect her entitlement to benefit under any provision of relevant social security legislation, but dishonestly failed to give prompt notification to the Department for Work and Pensions in the prescribed manner.

The case was adjourned for trial on Monday, October 3. Anderson is on unconditional bail.
