Police are appealing for witnesses following a street robbery in Northumberland.

A 26-year-old woman was walking along Bridge Street, Blyth, towards the junction with Havelock Street between 4.30pm and 4.50pm yesterday (Monday, October 17) when she was approached by an unknown man.

He grabbed her shoulder bag and made off down towards the Waterloo Pub. The woman was shaken by the incident but otherwise uninjured.

The offender had a backpack and was wearing a dark-coloured jacket and jeans.

Officers attended and are making inquiries in the area. The handbag was found nearby by police and cash had been stolen from it.

Police are appealing for witnesses - anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, is asked to contact them.
