Police are appealing for information after a disturbance in a north Northumberland town in which a 23-year-old man had part of his right ear bitten off.

At around 9.10pm last Friday, two men were involved in an altercation outside the Farmfoods store on Northumberland Road in Berwick. During the incident, a 23-year-old man had part of his right ear bitten off and was taken to hospital for treatment.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and in particular want to speak to a man and a woman who alerted officers to the incident. They were driving a small white car and may be able to help police with their inquiries.
