POLICE are appealing for witnesses after another fuel theft in north Northumberland.
A quantity of diesel was taken from a property in the Guyzance area between Sunday evening and Monday morning.
The county has been hit with a spate of fuel thefts over the last few months and earlier this week leading rural insurer NFU Mutual said that countryside communities were suffering at the hands of thieves, with claims for stolen oil across the country rocketing 264 per cent in January 2011.
On average, such incidents resulted in a claim for £1,033.
Figures also show that for 2010 and the first two months of this year, the North East was the third worst affected region for fuel thefts across the UK.
Nicki Whittaker, a spokeswoman for the insurer, said thieves were preying on rural areas to get their hands on the ‘new liquid gold’.
Anybody with any information about the theft in the Guyzance area is asked to contact police on 03456 043043 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
