An Amble man could be facing a prison sentence after stealing £2,000 from his grandfather.
John Ashley Jamieson, 22, pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared at South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Prosecuting, Stephen Davies said Jamieson, who lived at Aidan Road at the time of the offence, had gone to his grandparents’ home at Hauxley Way on Saturday, May 19.
“While excusing himself to use the bathroom he went into his grandparents’ bedroom,” he said.
“He removed an envelope containing £2,000 from the wardrobe, made his excuses and left.”
The court heard that Jamieson, who now lives in a caravan near Widdrington, spent the money on two vehicles and drugs.
Defending, Graham Crouth said Jamieson knew he faced jail.
He will be sentenced on Monday.
