Pupils at St Paul’s Middle School in Alnwick have been sharing their poems across Northumberland and beyond.

The pupils, part of a creative-writing group run by English teacher Catherine Newton, have produced a poetry anthology on the theme of light, this year’s National Poetry Day theme.

Mrs Newton – a poet herself – had the idea to send copies of the anthology to some of her friends in the poetry world.

As a result of distributing the anthology, the group was invited to read poems on Northumberland Radio during half-term and the programme will be broadcast soon on www.radionorthumberland.com
The pupils have also been invited to send their work to online poetry magazine, Poetry Space.

Mrs Newton said: “I am very proud of the pupils. They have received fantastic feedback.”
