Craster WI, October meeting

Craster WI met on October 2, in the Memorial Hall.

In the chair was president Joyce Shaw. The secretary led the singing of Jerusalem.

Doris Clarke, our secretary, told us about the group meeting on October 21, at 7pm. Craster WI will provide cakes.

Four members are going to the Pottergate Centre to join Brizlee WI at 7pm.

A pledge auction was held in Ponteland Memorial on Friday.

Our president Joyce Shaw introduced Prudence Marks, chairman of membership support. She was present to find replacements for the secretary and president who were leaving office in November.

The treasurer is moving house later this year, so will need someone to work with her until then.

Joyce Shaw introduced Kath and Henry Gilbert, who presented Postcards from Brazil. Kath did an amazing commentary on many waterfalls, amazing stories on monkeys, heron pelicans and parakeets and, above Rio, the statue of Christ the Redeemer.

The charities benefitting from funds were the Red Cross and Children’s Charity in Thailand. Our president gave the vote of thanks.

A buffet supper followed, during which Kath judged the 12 entries of something beginning with A. Winners were Syliva, Rosemary and Shirley. The raffle was won by Beryl Ainslie. The evening was acclaimed a great success.
