UPDATE at 6pm: Police are appealing for witnesses to a two-vehicle crash which killed an elderly man in Northumberland this morning.
The crash happened at 9.55am today on the A68, at the junction of Bellingham and Knowesgate.
A man in one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene and an elderly woman in the same vehicle was airlifted to the RVI for treatment to serious injuries.
Northumbria Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash or anyone with information to contact them. Call Northumbria Police motor patrols on 101, extension 69191.
STORY at 11am: Police are currently dealing with a serious collision in Northumberland.
At 10am today, police received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A68 in Bellingham.
Police, fire and ambulance crews are currently at the scene and a section of the A68 in both directions has been closed.
The closure is between the A696 junction and the Military Road junction/Stagshaw roundabout.
Officers are currently setting up diversions and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible as the road is expected to be closed for some time.
