Anger has erupted over litter in Hadston.

At this week’s East Chevington Parish Council meeting, four members of the public turned up with three bin bags full of rubbish which they had collected from the village’s precinct, Lake Road, Lake View and adjacent paths.

One resident, who didn’t want to be named, said youths drop rubbish as they walk away from shops leaving a trail behind them.

And she added that they were also congregating around the walled garden leaving ‘filthy’ rubbish behind and urinating in the area.

Coun Ann Elliott called for a campaign to crack down on litter.

She said: “It is absolutely disgraceful.

“I really think we should have a campaign on litter using schools and the youth groups.

“Ninety-nine per cent of the people who live here don’t want to live in a litter tip. If we all work together we should get something done.”

She added that parents need educating as well as children.

Chairman Coun Scott Dickinson said the council will also contact ThrowerStone which owns the precinct and ask them to organise a clean-up, although previous attempts at contact have been ignored.

He added: “The county council needs to take enforcement action on this.”
