A DIAMOND couple who met at a Seahouses dance have celebrated 60 years together.

David and Iris Pyle locked eyes at Bert May’s dance class when Iris, now 79, was just 15 and they have been together ever since.

David, now 85, was from Newham Village and was just home from the Army when he met his future wife.

Iris was from Low Newton and, after they married at Embleton Parish Church on January 19, 1952, they lived at Newham for 20 years, then Warenford for 25 years where Iris ran a bed and breakfast. They then retired to Seahouses.

Instead of anniversary presents, they asked friends and family who went to a party at the Bamburgh Castle Inn, to donate money to the Great North Air Ambulance, raising £600 for the cause.

David and Iris have three children, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

They received more than 80 cards on their special day. Prayers were said at Embleton church and they were blessed at Seahouses church.
