Councils working together on adoption

Ten local authorities in the North East are working together to try to get more people to adopt.

Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Northumberland, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton and Sunderland councils are launched a campaign with ITV on Saturday.

The advert aims to dispel the myths that often prevent people from coming forward to adopt and directs people to a regional website for more information.

There are currently around 385 North East children waiting to be adopted.

Northumberland County Council’s policy board member for children’s services, Coun Robert Arckless said, “We want to spread the word that if you are looking to begin, extend or complete your family, adoption is a wonderful way to become a parent, for both the adults and the children.”
