A revised bid for more than 40 new homes in Amble looks set to be approved when it goes before councillors next week.

Members of Northumberland County Council’s strategic planning committee are recommended to give the green light to plans for 42 properties, including six affordable homes, at Gloster Hill, at their meeting on Tuesday.

The proposals include 14 houses, six two-bedroomed affordable bungalows and four two-bedroomed private bungalows on land to the south of Mariners View.

The scheme also aims to convert the existing farm steading into six houses and construct a further 12 homes at Gloster Hill Farm, north of Mariners View.

The main vehicular access is proposed off Mariners View, between numbers 16 and 17 where there is an existing field access.

A secondary vehicular access is proposed to the north of the site, off Gloster Hill Road, serving a private drive to five dwellings. Minor road improvements are proposed at the bend of this road.

Objections have been received from 23 residents as well as Amble Town Council on grounds such as increased flood risk, highways safety and impact on privacy.

Background to the proposals

2007: An application to demolish the farm dwellings and build 20 properties was refused and then dismissed on appeal.

April 2014: The previous application for 44 homes, including 10 affordable, is unveiled, sparking a number of objections.

April 2015: The county council said that the-then application had a number of problems.

December 2015: Revised plans submitted.
February 2016: A separate plan for six homes at Gloster Hill is approved.
