A new community minibus service which helps reduce social exclusion and rural isolation is now accepting concessionary fares.

North East Equality & Diversity (Need) Ltd, Swarland and Newton on the Moor Parish Council and Northumberland County Council have joined forces to deliver a new door-to-door service connecting Holystone with Alnwick.

The new service operates every Thursday and covers the same route as the recently withdrawn 813 route.

And Need has announced that concessionary bus passes will be accepted on this service.

Andrew Davidson, general manager for Need said: “When the 813 service was withdrawn many people were left without access to Alnwick.

“So we are pleased to be able to offer a solution to this problem with a new ‘door-to-door’ Dial a Ride service.”

Need already operates a door-to-door service every Monday from Alwinton to Morpeth which has proved very popular.

Users of the Morpeth service described the service as a ‘lifeline’.
