CHANGES are to be introduced to the way a housing organisation is governed after concerns about its performance.
On Monday, Northumberland County Council’s Executive considered a confidential report about Homes for Northumberland and agreed to make some changes to the board of the company.
Coun Tom Brechany, executive member responsible for planning, housing and regeneration at the council said: “We have identified some improvements that we feel it is important to make.
“Through our powers under the management agreement the council is looking into the issues raised within the report and taking appropriate action, including strengthening the board and the management arrangements in Homes for Northumberland.
“The new board will oversee the development of an improvement plan and we will be involving tenants throughout the process, including some events in the New Year to identify any areas that they feel need to be developed or improved.”
A planned consultation with tenants’ future housing and the council’s ‘in principle’ decision to manage council properties directly will now be delayed until this improvement programme has been implemented.
