THE first community market in a north Northumberland village has been hailed a resounding success.

Belford Community Group held its first market recently with a host of stalls offering locals and visitors alike the chance to buy assorted products from watercolours and jewellery to plants, wood carvings and postcards.

Organiser Lindsey Nicholson said: “It was really superb effort by all concerned.

“We had about 300 people coming through during the morning and we intend to hold the market on the first Saturday of every month in future.

“What was particularly nice was that people from the village all came in and had a chat when meeting each other so it became something of a social occasion as well.”

The market was held in the village community centre on the High Street and was run in conjunction with the Group’s successful second-hand shop.
