A village hall committee has received a grant of £8,800 to upgrade its facilities.
Swarland Village Hall has been given the funds from Awards for All, through the Big Lottery Fund.
The committee plans to use the grant to carry out urgently-needed improvements to the stage and to provide greater storage capacity.
Swarland Village Hall is a Grade II-listed, wooden-framed building, which is more than 70 years old.
It is an essential amenity for the community, used by many groups within the villages of Swarland and Newton on the Moor.
Work including repairs to damaged and loose plaster, treatment of woodworm, installation of heating to the stage area and electrical updates will be done as well as putting in a hearing loop, a PA system and more general storage.
The hall committee is also contributing £2,000 of its own funds.
